We head off to Lerwick to shop. I've told Liz that she has pretty much an open cheque book for wool etc this week. She wants to do more Fairisle knitting, and that needs a good palette of colours of Shetland wool. I think she was restrained today, only 14 balls, along with some very nice hand made glove formers. But that's only the start!
Helpful people. We popped into Boots as, in a senior moment before we left home, I'd assumed some medication was in strips of 28 not 14, so will be about 4 days short. Very nice assistant in Lerwick Boots tools me to pop in when I'd run out with proof of the prescription and he'd issue what was needed. Thank goodness for the NHS app with its nicely documented repeat prescription.
Then Lerwick Tourist Office, we wandered in and asked what the "must sees" were. A good 20 minutes later we have a hand annotated map with loads of things we definitely might like to see written in. No need for leaflets and tourist booklets, just a good personal service. We hear that the Office is under threat of closure. If any of the people in Shetland who run any form of tourist attraction are reading this then go harass your councillors. Service such as we had today is guaranteed to send visitors your way and you'll be poorer when if they close.
Oh, and the Ellesmere Stores, the young lad behind the till didn't really know but thought he'd heard that the proprietor, named Cunningham hailed from an Ellesmere family. He'll ask if he sees him, so watch this space. I bet the suspense is killing you!
Back to the van, pies from a local butcher for dinner. We didn't bring the tiny air fryer this trip but the site has a full kitchen. Very good they were too.
It's blowing strongly now, wind from the north, going to be a cold night.
Right, highlight of the day, off back into Lerwick to see Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, both MBEs, both legends of the Scottish music scene. Aly is 78 now but can still shift that fiddle bow and Phil's hands do a magical dance. I took a quick snap
Here's a song
I said it's going to be cold. It's 5.8⁰ when we get back to the van. Strangely it doesn't feel too bad so a quick cuppa before bed. The wind must have shifted because suddenly it feels really cold. Quick, into those duvets and get warm.
Not so many miles today, just two trips to Lerwick and back so probably less than 30 miles in total. Also looks like the GPS has a mishap and took a shortcut one trip!
